CONTENTMENT

CHOICES THAT PLEASE GOD
2 CORINTHIANS 11:24-27; PHILIPPIANS 4:4-13


¿Have you ever wondered why life seems to be so hard and tough? Everybody goes through hard times, but some of them do not lose contentment. Paul, the apostle shares this about his life. (2 Corinthians 11:24-27):
Five times I received from the Jews the forty lashes minus one.
Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was pelted with stones, three times I was shipwrecked, I spent a night and a day in the open sea, I have been constantly on the move.
I have been in danger from rivers, in danger from bandits, in danger from my fellow Jews, in danger from Gentiles; in danger in the city, in danger in the country, in danger at sea; and in danger from false believers.
I have labored and toiled and have often gone without sleep; I have known hunger and thirst and have often gone without food; I have been cold and naked.
“I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength.” Philippians 4:12-13
How can a person have contentment in such hard circumstances? He had way too much to complain and feel resentful about. What was the origin of his peace and contentment? Paul explains us that we can also have that kind of peace and contentment in the middle of the turmoil…

Philippians 4:4-9
Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.
Now that another year has started, let’s not forget Paul’s experiences and advice whenever we feel we need to change our attitude to face a terrible day. You are not alone and you can overcome everything on your way!
