YES, WE CAN!

The current world population of 6 billion is predicted to increase by 50% to 9 billion by 2050.This means a lot of things to our world in the future. We are certain that a breed of curious, intelligent and industrious generation is coming. This is a breed of individuals whom the bible talks about when it says ‘In the last days I will pour my spirit upon all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young man will see visions, your old man will dream dreams’ [Acts 2 vs 17 NIV].

Our world will have young people, controlling and giving direction to very complex political mandates. Young woman will be in the lab, designing some of the fineness gadget known to mankind. Young men will be giving nation’s solidarity and vision through amazing ability never known before. Our old man will be solving riddles of life and shedding wisdom where the going gets tough!

The same goes on the opposite direction, as many people inhabit earth, competition will escalate, corruption will be evident in many parts of the world. People who live below the poverty datum line are likely to increase. Souls will be devastated! During this hard times, when the gap between ‘the haves’ and ‘have nots’ widens people want to hear some words, specific words. The truth of the matter is that sympathizing with them is not going to be of any value to their well being. These words are so powerful many great figures in human history (including Jesus Christ himself) can attest to the power bestowed upon these words. These are words which were common in American politics in 2008 presidential election race.

Friend, I want to categorically and otherwise make clear my voice that, we are living in a world where everyone wants to hear these words. The situation is so unbalanced that no one is ready to say these words to anyone, because they want to have someone say these words to them! Throughout the world, hearts are aching, hearts are broken into pieces, hope is gone, times are tough, it’s a total anarchy and the power behind these words can give hope and turn the situation around in the twinkling of an eye!

People don’t need to be given money or any form of hand outs to move from their frustrations. The current US President, Mr Obama knows these words. These 3 words stimulated American politics in what marked history in the US presidential race. My friend let’s start where we are, in whatever we do, to tell people these words! Our family, friends, husbands and wives, brothers and sisters are dying to hear you these words from you. Let us become part of a positive history. Tell her, tell him, tell them and tell yourself these 3 words.

YES, WE CAN!
Today’s thought: As a man thinketh in his heart, so he is.

PUT A SMILE ON GOD’S FACE

See, listen and hear it when they can’t! (1st Cor 2:9)
Frankly speaking opportunities are all over. We can’t see them; we don’t even know how to identify them. One man once said “it takes trained eyes to perceive an opportunity amidst a situation”. For us to get a handle of these vast numbers of undetected opportunities we have to think a little deeper and perceive a bit further. Today’s article is a testimony of 2 of my friends who taught me that we ought to think outside the box, if at all we have ambitions to be part of amazing and wow future leaders.

During his high school Dave was particularly amazing in his biology class. In fact, he scooped prize award for the best biology student 2 years in a row, an achievement which was unique. His passion for biology as a subject was an obsession. As his friends I had no doubt that he will end up a medical doctor, at some point he also held the same believe. However, he kept an open mind, after his high school, through continuous thinking, looking deeper and seeking professional counsel, he decided to study engineering. If I am to confess, I was a bit shocked (never told him), but encouraged him in the Lord. The following years paid dividends, as he proceeded to attain his master’s degree of reputable significance in a world class university and is currently working with a giant diamond company. It’s a given that with his open mind, he will be the source of innovation in his respective field.

The second one is a lady called Angie. I haven’t known her for a long time (as is the case with Dave) but have learnt a lot from her personality. She holds a business degree and has an amazing academic record. She is a high flyer. Upon finishing her university degree, everyone, including members of her family expected her to join the cooperate world as a business personnel, but not in her world. She shocked people, I am afraid even herself, when she took teaching and trust me, not in business or any related subject, but English and science! The question is why? As she explained, it’s about passion; her passion to share knowledge with fellow man is an obsession!

What am I getting at? We are entering a highly competitive era that emphases more on personal development and an era that puts more weight on ones character than his academic certificates. This era will see highly motivated individual taking higher post. Open minded people, who know that thousands of roads finally converges to the same city. People who are so flexible and not narrow minded. People who know that their degree might be in Marketing and end up in Education. People who know their desired destination and appreciates different paths towards the spot, and ready to explore such paths.

GREED! A MONSTER THAT KILLS SMILING

BY ABED MONTSHIWA

"Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions."(Luke 12:15)

I know our society has a totally wrong perception about the term greed. When an individual works their way up and accumulates surplus he is tagged with the term. This has become so disturbing such that laziness is unintentionally nurtured amongst us. Instead of working hard we have our fingers pointing to those who have accumulated riches. If we are to make a positive impact in human development and our respective societies, we should be prepared to work very smart and with clear strategies towards specific targets.

At the same time, we should always know that the more we give, the more we get blessed! We should be on the look, to see who to bless and in what capacity. That will help us to run away from being greedy. To give is not a portion of the rich and is not a function of abundance, it’s an issue of the heart and obedience!

Three men set out to look for treasure. They left their families and headed into the wilderness where remnants of gold deposits were rumored. By the time they arrived at their destination, people had already cleared the remaining deposits. Demoralized with frustration, they decided to return back to their town. However, since the journey was so long, they decided to walk for some time, have a rest and repeat the process until they arrive. You can imagine how their journey back must have been an ugly maneuver.

They say days come in different forms and shapes, and this was such. As they approached a huge tree for rest, something excited them. It looked like a huge bag, as they got nearer, it looked like a sack, and when they finally got a handle on this package, the bag was written ‘New bank notes, $USD 3 million. Quickly they opened the bag, and behold, they were 3 million rich! Immediately they left, and along the way they felt tired and hungry and decided to have one of them run to get them some food while they wait in a secure location.

As soon as the man ran to a nearby restaurant, greed appealed to them. ‘You know if we can kill that guy, we will be 1.5 million rich’ suggested the greed- tormented one. ‘You are right! When he arrives, we will get him killed and share the package among us’. Hands were shaken to seal the deal. At that very time, the guy who went to buy some food conceived a plan from the invisible force called greed. ‘You know if you can poison those guys’ food you will get them killed and emerge 3 million rich!’, ‘and I will be the most powerful man in my town’ added our potential fortune owner. He immediately poisoned the food and set back to see how his friends will die as he gets rich.

The turn of events got even more catastrophic. Upon arrival, he was butchered by his friends beyond recognition, and they buried him to erase any possible evidence of his murder. Now, you can imagine what happened after that. You got it right! The 2 remaining man shared money equally and sat down to enjoy their meals! They died an agonizing death from food poisoning and the 3 million remained untouched. None of the men won, but greed, won! It’s a monster that kills smiling and promises the best of things. WATCH OUT!

INVESTMENTS AND TIME! WHAT A COMBINATION!!

BY
ABED MONTSHIWA

King Solomon! Talk about the King, one thing is true. People immediately want to know which part of him are you gonna talk about! Solomon the wise King, or Solomon, the King who had so much to deal with in his personal/ private life. My old man used to say, when a menu is on the table choose what you prefer and enjoy the moment, other than complaining of what you don’t like. For our objective’s sake, let’s make Solomon our menu, and I will pick what I like in this meal. It happens to be wisdom. Let’s get closer.

Ecclesiastes 9: 11- (I have seen something under the sun: The race is not to the swift or battle to the strong, nor does food come to the wise or wealth to the brilliant or favor to the learned; but time and chance happen to them all) .

Solomon, certainly a very wise man in human history is opening our eyes. To him Olympic gold medal athletes are not born the world’s fastest runner, but taking time to train and learn the roles of the sport made them the world’s best. Nothing of that magnitude will take place by coincidence. If we are people of the future it’s high time we forget about “lucky”. We have to pay the price. The battle does not belong to “the Goliath” but to “the David”. Goliath was certainly a very strongman. He commanded great respect in Philistine and across. The bible description of this man is amazing. David, a mere shepherd was unrecognized. How on earth did David defeat Goliath? What’s the principle he used? As a shepherd, I am sure David encountered battles in the bush. Sometimes foxes wanted to engulf the sheep, hyenas played their tricks and worst still he had to protect his life from these dangerous carnivores. I am sure this was how David took advantage of time and chance to perfect his battling skills. Goliath spent most of his time moving around, boastful and proud. We now see what the 2 invested on. Friend, this is even true for your life. Well, I hear someone say “But some people are naturally talented”. The truth of the matter is that we are all talented in some way or another, but what separates us from the other talented is how you cultivate your talent.

Let this be a quick one! All that is important is for us to learn is to know that nothing just happens. I always see young people envying people who are on top of their game, but what they miss, which is actually core to grasp is that such individuals are working hard to achieve what is many’s dream! Ask Usain Bolt, he will tell you that you have to train vigorously to set the world record and break it! Time is now, and time is up! Let’s arise and shake the potential we have, lets never have rest until we are the best we can be!

10 obstacles for an effective prayer

1. Praying without knowing God through Jesus

John 14:6 (New International Version)

6Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

2. Praying without a repentance

Psalm 66:18-19 (New International Version)

18 If I had cherished sin in my heart,

the Lord would not have listened;

19 but God has surely listened

and heard my voice in prayer.

3. Praying boasting

Matthew 6:5 (New International Version)

Prayer

5"And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full.

4. Praying in a repetitive way, with empty words

Matthew 6:7-8 (New International Version)

7And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

5. Prayers without prayer itself

James 4:2 (New International Version)

2You want something but don't get it. You kill and covet, but you cannot have what you want. You quarrel and fight. You do not have, because you do not ask God.

6. Praying with a selfish heart

James 4:3 (New International Version)

3When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.

7. Praying when you have something against somebody

1 Peter 3:7 (New International Version)

7Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers

8. Praying while you ignore poor people

Proverbs 21:13 (New International Version)

13 If a man shuts his ears to the cry of the poor,

he too will cry out and not be answered.

9. Praying with a heart full of bitterness against somebody

Mark 11:25-26 (New International Version)

25And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins."[a]

10. Praying with a heart without faith

James 1:6-8 (New International Version)

6But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. 7That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; 8he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does.

The Blood

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son. (John 3:16-18)

God has given us an everlasting gift which is life eternally through Christ Jesus our Lord and savior. So many times we take for granted the gift of life and the giver. We forget the power of the blood. Without the shedding of blood the ransom would not have been paid, Jesus paid the ransom (1 Tim 2:5-6) the blood of Jesus sealed the covenant that today we be liberated (John 8:36). The blood of Jesus was the ultimate seal needed for us to be released from the prison of sin and suffering, the prison of bondages, curses and turmoil and all the pains and afflictions of the devil.

The bible talks of the significance of blood, as a marker. When God was bringing his wrath upon the house of Egypt He told the people of Israel to slaughter lambs and mark their doorposts with the blood. The blood signifies identity; it separated the houses of the people of God and of the Egyptians (Exodus 12, read the whole chapter). As people of God we have to recognize the power of the blood of the Lamb. Through the marking of the door posts the children of Israel were protected. The blood of Jesus cleanses all sin; the bible calls Him the Lamb of God. In Leviticus chapter 3, the bible tells us of the lamb being used as a sacrifice for peace offering, to make things right between man and God after sinning, its blood was sprinkled on the alter and its fat burnt. One’s sin is all cleansed and we remain whiter than snow, pure.

The bible continues to tell us of the life of the blood has. It says the blood SPEAKETH better things than the blood of Abel (Heb 12:24). The blood of Jesus has life. It brought life back to us who were dead in sin and when he died and rose again life eternally was given unto each and everyone who believed and believes and who will believe in the son of God (John 3:16). The spiritual man is alive because of the shedding of the blood of lamb. This wonderful blood it washes away all our sins, we are purified and made wonderful and beautiful because of the power in the blood.

Let us be thankful for the Lord Jesus that today you and me we don’t go to slaughter cows, goats and even kill each other to apiece ourselves. We stand rest assured that we are of God because we have the mark of the blood of Jesus, the blood of the Lamb of God. The blood of Jesus has power it reaches unto the far ends of the earth, it reaches to the man who lives in the faraway mountain, to the young girl who is locked up in maximum prison, and to the crippled who believes he will never walk and is hiding away, the blood touches them and they are forever changed.

It is upon me and you, now that we understand the power of the blood that we stand and pray and call the Lamb of God to reach someone through His blood that was shed, to give life for the He lost and gained, to give someone else who has not known Him salvation through His blood for salvation belongs to Him and is a gift for sure. Rev (7:10).

As we meditate upon the word let us realize that the blood of Jesus, the Lamb of God:

• Gave and stills gives life

• It gives freedom

• It gives peace

• It assures us of protection

• It gives us an identity

• It gives us power

• It gives us favor

And the list is endless, all in all glory be to God for Jesus, for today we are alive and called a royal priesthood, a peculiar people, a chosen generation because of the BLOOD that was shed at Calvary.

Be yea blessed and may we continue to stand and stand forever in faith….

The Weapon of Prayer

By
E.M BOUNDS

"GOD'S great plan for the redemption of mankind is as much bound up to prayer for its
prosperity and success as when the decree creating the movement was issued from the
Father, bearing on its frontage the imperative, universal and eternal condition, "Ask of
me, and I will give thee the heathen for thy inheritance and the uttermost part of the earth
for thy possession."

In many places an alarming state of things has come to pass, in that the many who are enrolled in our churches are not praying men and women. Many of those occupying prominent positions in church life are not praying men. It is greatly to feared that much of the work of the Church is being done by those who are perfect strangers to the closet. Small wonder that the work does not succeed. While it may be
true that many in the Church say prayers, it is equally true that their praying is of the stereotyped order. Their prayers may be charged with sentiment, but they are tame, timid, and without fire or force. Even this sort of praying is done by a few straggling men to be found at prayer-meetings. Those whose names are to be found bulking large in our great Church assemblies are not men noted for their praying habits. Yet the entire fabric of the work in which they are engaged has, perforce, to depend on the adequacy of prayer.

Thisfact is similar to the crisis which would be created were a country to have to admit in the face of an invading foe that it cannot fight and have no knowledge of the weapons whereby war is to be waged. In all God's plans for human redemption, He proposes that men pray. The men are to pray in every place, in the church, in the closet, in the home, on sacred days and on secular days. All things and everything are dependent on the measure of men's praying. Prayer is the genius and mainspring of life. We pray as we live; we live as we pray. Life will never be finer than the quality of the closet. The mercury of life will rise only by the warmth of the closet. Persistent non-praying eventually will depress life below zero." --E. M. Bounds

PRAYING WITH HEARTS OF A FAITH OF SUBSTANCE

Prayer is communication and an appointment with God, the risen King Jesus, the Messiah, and the Holy One of Israel. Hallelujah!!!! What a wonder it is that you and I can approach the throne of God and converse with Him. We can approach His altar and sit at His feet and relax and talk to Him, the beautiful thing is that He talks back to us. He is not a statue or some water in a bottle, He is alive and He reigns He is King. You and I can only experience God’s presence and Him in His presence if we have a faith of a substance. Hebrews 11:1. Faith is therefore the hope of things unseen. The Amplified version says: NOW FAITH is the assurance (the confirmation, the title deed) of the things [we] hope for, being the proof of things [we] do not see and the conviction of their reality [faith perceiving as real fact what is not revealed to the senses].

The Bible declares that faith is the confirmation, THE TITLE DEED, meaning we have an entitlement, ownership to our faith. The dictionary defines a title deed as follows: title deed

–noun

a deed or document containing or constituting evidence of ownership.

Now what am I saying; without faith we can never receive from God, we can never see God, we can never meet God we can never know God nor understand how He operates. That is why so many times when we are in prayer people are looking at other people wondering why they are worshipping the way they do. My dear brothers and sisters, how can they not worship God with their very best, with the faith of substance when they have seen Him? When they have met up with Him? When their faith has led them into a place where God dwells? I mean in the Holy of holies, the presence of the most High, they have entered a place where they want to dwell forever.

The psalmist David understood this. Psalm 23, he says therefore I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. The preceding verses he describes how he shall not want, there is no lack in the presence of God, there is peace beside the still waters, there is restoration of the soul, there is protection, guidance, comfort, being spoiled and treated well with love, a table is prepared for you, mercy and goodness follow you so is the unfailing love. That’s why the man after God’s own heart decided that the house of the Lord (God’s presence) will be his dwelling place forever.

But only when we have faith of a substance and we pray with a faith that moves the heart of God and moves Him from His throne to descend unto us, to invite us into His presence only then can we please God. The Bible says no man can please God without faith. Hebrews 11:6 (But without faith it is impossible to please and be satisfactory to Him. For whoever would come near to God must [necessarily] believe that God exists and that He is the rewarder of those who earnestly and diligently seek Him [out]).It is this faith that today we are who we are because Abraham believed. Read the whole chapter of Hebrews 11. I pray that we all are elevated to a place where our faith is affirmed, a place where we shall worship the Lord with our very best understanding that He wants us to forever dwell in His presence every microsecond of our lives. May we all arise for the glory of God is upon us and only by faith will we see God. May we stand like Abraham, David, Abel, Moses and others stood and believed.

MAY HE CAUSE HIS FACE TO SHINE UPON YOU ALL, AND MAY YOU AL BE FILLED WITH HIS PRESENCE AS YOU PRAY WITH AN UNSHAKABLE FAITH BELIEVING IN HIM WHO HAS PROMISED AND MAY YOU DWELL IN HIS PRESENCE.

BE BLESSED AND BE HIGHLY FAVOURED!!!!

VALUE

Abed Montshiwa, Proud Motswana currently persuing a Master degree in Urban construction and Environmental Engineering in Chongqing, China - Dawn Cometh Team Member

VALUE

‘The stone that the builders rejected became the corner stone’

Evident enough, Jesus was a story teller and I was thinking how about taking a moment of refreshment and tell a story. We have been discussing deep issues, frankly speaking, more serious kind of stuff, which many times than not always end with self introspection! am I doing it right? Am I a real good lad? For today, lets say, we need a break and lets gather by the fire side, have some coffee, pop corns , unfold our stretchers, lean back and enjoy ourselves. Oh, by the way it will be pleasant if couples, wives and husbands, brothers and sisters take a moment to just socialize and yeah, questions and discussions will be allowed! You got it right, be free to stop him and have facts clear. Here we go!

With a population of around 111 million people Mexico is known as a tourism hub the world over, each year, millions of people fly to this magnificent tourism center on vacation and leisure. But apart from tourism, it is known to have some of the wisest man in human history, and the story centralizes around our great grandfather Rodrick (not his real name) to share with us the story he likes the most. He starts...

‘When paper money was invented, people were just fascinated at the idea. Many people sold their assets just to get a handle of this well inscribed piece of a processed wood! However, since the idea was new, people, myself included struggled to conceptualize the whole thing’ The old Rodrick has just started. ‘So, during those confusing years of international trade revolution, people thought that a new note, had more value than an old one, let me explain, we thought a new $10 was more valuable than an old $10 note and everyone wanted to posses new notes! You can imagine the fiasco and drama that took place as everyone wrestled with any financial institutions when given old rugged notes’ continued grandpa. Oh...before he continues let me make an announcement, I hear that corns are ready and the coffee is on the offer, please help yourselves guys. Back to you granny. ‘Everything became stagnant, people held tightly to new notes, and that crippled trade. Actually, the world economy suffered a clear sign of ignorance until more light was shared to people and they opened up and as they say the rest is history, money is money. Value, as we know is the same among notes of the same wavelength; therefore value is a function of the label depicted on the note. I will cut the story short fellas because I have to sleep. This body is tired, but let me communicate the moral of this story’ said our man of the moment.

‘I don’t know what note you are, May be you are a new note, or an old one. May be you have exchanged many hands, with some of your custodians been rough. You might have been abused, bruised, emotionally and otherwise. People may be by- passing you in search of so called new notes. You are probably greasy, dirty and scratched but one thing is true. Your value does not change as you get bruised! You can change in appearance as you are malnourished and in hunger. You may be depressed because he left you for Lina, you may be degraded because your marriage is falling apart. Despite your effort to integrate in the community, you remain a social reject! But I have good news for you today, you posses the same value as that most sought after sister. You deserve as much good as everyone. You are a peculiar generation, made in the image of God, for His purpose and in His will. You can buy anything anyone can buy! We don’t throw an old note, do we? Don’t listen to their lies anymore! Tell them, it’s all about value than appearance or history! Better tell them, may value label will change from single digit to more than 5 digits soon!

It's all about Relationship!

By: Becca- Bluett Duncan, UK

More about Becca:

Becca is a 23-yr-old newly qualified speech and language therapist , passionate for Jesus. She lives in Leeds, UK. She’s been involved in few youth ministries recently. She's the 'student worker' for her Local Church at the moment. She likes to dance, and writes beautifully on her own blog!:) http://www.findingflapjack.blogspot.com/

The other day I was reading some chapters of Isaiah. The last thing I expected to find was the gospel story. Prophecies of a Messiah, yes, but I always thought it came in pieces like a jigsaw. Then in one chapter I found the entire gospel story!

It all begins in Isaiah 59:1-2.

1Behold, the LORD’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save,

or his ear dull, that it cannot hear;

2 but your iniquities have made a separation

between you and your God,

and your sins have hidden his face from you

so that he does not hear.

There is no limit to our God’s power. But mankind’s sin has put up a huge barrier between us and Him. I love the sentiment of this verse, I can almost imagine God saying, “I didn’t put up this barrier, I didn’t want it! I want to reach out my arm to save you; I want to listen to and converse with you; but your sins are forcing you away from me.” A God who loves his people.

The rest of the chapter (read the whole thing here) goes on to list all of the terrible things that the people are doing that break God’s heart and cause the separation. In verse 15, God steps in. He sees that there is no man who is pure enough to bridge the gap so he himself steps onto the scene to bring salvation. Verse 16 says:

16 He saw that there was no man,

and wondered that there was no one to intercede;

then his own arm brought him salvation,

and his righteousness upheld him.

Down comes that strong arm to save, in spite of all our sin. God is reunited with his children. The chapter finishes with promise of a Redeemer and a Spirit that will never leave His people, or their descendants, ever.

What I love so much about this is that God said it 700 years before Jesus ever came on the scene! This is no last-minute plan. Isaiah 43:11-12 says

11 I, yes I, am the LORD,

and there is no other Saviour.

12 First I predicted your rescue,

then I saved you and proclaimed it to the world.

No foreign god has ever done this.

You are witnesses that I am the only God,”

says the LORD.

For centuries, millennia, God has been talking about his plan to reunite himself with us. It’s all about Relationship.

Paul reminds us that we were still dead in our sins when Jesus died for us- not the holy and righteous ones we are today (Romans 5:8). Isaiah 43:25 tells us that God blots out our sins for His own sake- because He wants to!

How unknowable is that, that a divine God who created everything and has need of nothing, would choose to limit himself, come down to earth as a man in order to suffer and die, to save a race who had only rejected and separated themselves from him, in order that we might have a renewed relationship with him (Eph 1:4-5). Wow.

It’s all about relationship!

HUMILITY=HONOUR

BY: GLORIA TLOU
Follower and Friend in Trinidad

Ms Gloria Tlou is a young woman with full of energy for the things of God. She is currently living in Trinidad where she is reading for Degree in dentistry. Her passion is to be involved in charitable works by reaching to underprivileged; she’s currently a member of the society with particular interests on orphans.

2 Kings 5

1Now Naaman, captain of the host of the king of Syria, was a great man with his master, and honorable, because by him the LORD had given deliverance unto Syria: he was also a mighty man in valour, but he was a leper. 2And the Syrians had gone out by companies, and had brought away captive out of the land of Israel a little maid; and she waited on Naaman's wife. 3And she said unto her mistress, Would God my lord were with the prophet that is in Samaria! for he would recover him of his leprosy. Read the whole chapter.

Many times as people we never expect anything good to come out of the people that are not recognized in society. In today’s world, class is so much a part of people that some lose the sense of whom they really are because they chase so much after stature. The bible describes Naaman as a man of valour, he was recognized in society and honourable BUT he was sick. His maid though a person of low status in society she was a person who knew something greater than he did, she knew the God of Elisha, the God that heals.

The bible continues to tell us that Naaman was told to go and deep himself seven times in the river Jordan but because he was a man of stature he wanted the prophet Elisha to meet with him, to recognize that he was a might man. He didn’t just want to receive the word and do as it said but he wanted to be honored by the prophet’s presence. The messenger meeting him was not enough for the great Naaman. His pride was standing in the way of him receiving healing.

The bible tells us that so many did not believe anything good could come out of Jerusalem; Jesus was after all a carpenter’s son and how can He stand and say He is the Messiah. I guess they wanted to be graced by the presence of a certain type of a god that they had created in their minds as the Messiah. I guess the Messiah in their minds was all glitz and glamour!!!!!!So many times we miss the blessing of God because we are busy focusing on the messenger not the message. We don’t receive because we are so proud. Humility is an attitude of appreciation and God wants us to make it a part of our lives.

There is a saying that one’s attitude determines their altitude. Even with God your attitude will determine how far you go with Him. God does not seek the pride. The bible tells us that pride comes before a fall. Proverbs 16:18.We must not look at someone or something and think less of them, whether we know them or not or give honor to ourselves and think we are better than everybody else. Proverbs 29: 23.In the eyes of God we are all equal. The bible also tells us not to despise small beginnings (Zechariah 4:10).

So many have missed an opportunity to walk, sit and eat with Christ while he walked on earth because of their pride. They refused to be seen worshipping or believing that a commoner could be the bearer of the life changing message and the savior of the world. They rejected the cornerstone of the church, the head of the church of God…the Messiah and what an opportunity that was! Brethren let us be humble in all that we do and let us know that the container of a substance might be the first thing we see but the essence of the substance is not changed by the container. The value we have as human beings is not added to us by our outward look but by He that lives in us. A diamond does not lose its value just because it is hidden in the ground, it will always be a diamond!!!!

Ladies and gentlemen, let us put aside our pride looks and know that honor comes from God and Him alone. Let us not let the Lord pass us by because our lives are so full of pride that He cannot use us. In everything we do the glory goes to God.

Be blessed.

Suffering!

Those of us who’ve had to apply for university at some point in life will remember something called a personal statement. This is where you go on about who you are, what experiences have shaped the person you are and why you have decided to apply for whatever course that you’ve applied for. Some years ago, New York University received an application and the personal statement read as follows;
I am a dynamic figure of insane scaling walls and crushing ice. I have been known to remodel train stations in my lunch break and make them more efficient in the area of heat retention. I translate ethnic slates for Cuban refugees. I write award winning operas. I manage time efficiently. Occasionally I tread water for three days in a row. I woo women with my sensuous and gob-like trombone plane. I can pilot bicycles up severe inclines with unflagging speed. I cook 30 minutes brownies in 20 minutes. I am an expert in stucco, a veteran in love, an outlaw on parole. Using only a hoe and a large glass of water, I once single-handedly defended a small village in the Amazon basin from a hawed of ferocious army ants. I play bluegrass cello. I was scouted by the Mets. I am the subject of new maze documentaries. When I’m bored I design long suspension bridges in my yard. I enjoy air burn hang gliding. On Wednesdays after school, I repair electrical appliances free of charge. I am an abstract artist, a concrete analyst, a ruthless bookies critique and worldwide sewer of my original line of Contory evening wear. I don’t perspire, I am a private citizen yet I receive fan-mail. I’ve been caller number 9 and have won the weekend passes. Last summer, I toured New Jersey with a travelling centrifuge forces demonstration. My deft floral arrangements have earned me fame and international bartney circles. Children trust me. I can herald tennis racquets at small moving objects with deadly accuracy. I once read “Paradise lost”, “Moby Dick” and “David Copperfield” all in one day. I still had time to refurbish an entire dining room that evening. I know the exact location of every food item in the supermarket. I perform several covet operations with the CIA. I sleep once a week and when I do, I sleep on a chair. While on vacation in Canada, I successfully negotiated with a group of terrorists who had seized a small bakery. The laws of Physics do not apply to me. I balance, I weave, I frolic, I dodge and my bills are paid. On weekends to let off steam I participate on full contact origami. Years ago, I discovered the meaning of life but I forgot to write it down. I’ve made extra ordinary four course meals in a toaster oven. I breed price winning clumps. I’ve won bull fighting in San one, cliff diving competition in Sri Lanka and spelling bees in the Kremlin. I’ve played Hamlit. I performed open-heart surgery and recently I held a conversation with Elvis. I HAVE NOT YET WENT TO COLLEGE!
In reading that letter as an admissions officer or whoever would have read that, I am guessing that 2 things that would have come to their mind; he’s such a liar or so imaginative, very creative. I mean let’s face it, that personal statement is ridiculously incredulous. It is too good to be true and they say when it is too good to be true, it usually is. Believe it or not, this personal statement was written by a homeless guy who lived in the subways and had absolutely nowhere to lay his head. It was a university application from someone who would go through the day with absolutely no idea what he was gona have for dinner that night. It was written by someone who knew what it is to suffer. However, after that display of creativity prowess, I am sure you agree with me that offering him a place in the university was the right decision. The guy went on to study at New York University and as of 2009, he had written two movies.
While I found this story so fascinating and inspiring, my aim is just to share the power that suffering has in our lives. Suffering, hurt and pain is by far one of the most common driver of success amongst the most successful people. Like someone said, true creativity and artistry is born out of suffering. One’s personal struggles give them a story like no one else’s. When you’re kicked, jolted and persecuted, that is the time that you’re shoved into a new reality and a way of confronting challenge that you’d have otherwise have not have brought about on our own. You get into a situation in which you imagine a new future because the one that you’ve always envisaged is no more. Suffering makes you see beauty and life in places where everyone else doesn’t. Having lived in the western world for four years, I know that hardships especially of poverty are something that our brothers and sisters in that part of the world would find hard to decipher but having been born in a humble background family and poverty stricken community I know exactly what lack of material needs means. I know the excitement that used to be there at the acquisition of what some people wouldn’t understand what the fuss is all about. While I may be presenting this in the context of material lack and poverty since it is what I can relate to most, I know that suffering can be as varied as the creative genius that it birthes in us and the way in which it actually reveals how powerful and strong we are. Have you ever been in a situation where you thought to yourself, “I just can’t go through this another day, I just can’t take it anymore” and here you are 6 months, a year or even three years later holding on? Have you seen someone go through something and thought, “I’d have surely fell flat on my face a long ago” only for you to go through it and survive and even have God glorify himself through that in a mightier way?
Am I in any way subscribing to foolishness in a way to bring suffering (which will in turn bring out that creative genius in you or bring glory to God)? Obviously not! If you’ve been reading all along thinking getting yourself into a suffering situation, please reverse and get that thought out of you NOW! What I am trying to point out is that if you’re going through some tough situation in your life right now, if you’ve been laid off your job, if you’ve lost a loved one, if you’ve been diagnosed with some chronic illness, try and look at the brighter side of things. See the beauty and the creativity that can be birthed through that experience because regardless of the cause of the affliction, there’s surely going to be a positive that can be drawn from that. Some creativity can be birthed, a business venture can be founded from that job loss, a talent can be discovered and above all character is being built and God is glorifying himself. The interesting thing about character is that you can never get it through anything else apart from experiencing and overcoming challenges. You’ll never get it from laying on of hands by an anointed man of God and neither can you get it from a great bestselling book on character development. It is earned! I am not sure what you’re going through at the moment but whatever it is, know that God allowed it because through it you can come out a better person. Allow the turmoil, the hardship and the pain of life to birth and unveil that greatness in you that you never knew existed!

AUTHORITY (Part One)

In all the creation of God, in its fullness, man was created in a special way and superiority over other of God’s creation was his creation rights. This is demonstrated in the word of God when God gave him authority over everything he was created with (though chronologically, a young specie).
Genesis Chapter 1 verse 26 ‘Then God said let us make man in our own image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground’ NIV

It is with no wonder today that man can do almost everything he dreams about, we hear of scientific discoveries everyday and man’s ability to get to the bottom of things is amazing. Consider the science of medicine; the technology is so advanced so much that each and every organ in a human body can be monitored to a point that the monitoring devices can predict a life span of a patient! This shows how much powerful man has become, and all this is traced back to the time of creation. It’s the way God intended it to be. We were given so much authority.
I really like the biblical illustration of how issues of power and authority are carefully approached. The core moral is through the process of collaboration. Collaboration and cooperation has been rudimentary to the nature in which God works. The bible clearly states in Genesis 1 vs. 26 (above).

I know there are many insights the scripture gives but my interest is where God said let US….. That was at a point when God stopped to say, let there be this and that… as previously mentioned during creation. God had to seat on a discussion room, take opinions from Him as a threefold being. God made sure that during man’s creation all interest of his wholeness in His 3 form were taken care of. A scenario that do not only depict the sensitiveness of man’s creation before Him as God, but also with a strong message that issue of paramount significance (in this case power and authority) needs significant numerical representation because such issues, by nature and otherwise are bigger than a single entity, no matter how strong such an entity maybe. It humbles to see God Himself contacting, discussing and opening up for opinions even when he is all knowing, logically needing no advice or suggestion as an all perfect God.

Humans have adopted this demonstration by introducing the term ‘democracy’ in the governance system when deciding who is more powerful in the land or nation; this is so because we concur that for power to be given to an individual there should be discussions and numerical recognition. (This is decided on ballots, during elections by the world system) Perhaps, we can understand why powerful people always move around with a group of people around them. It’s all borrowed from the bible. However, humans style, though suppose to represent the way of God’s operation is lacking in most of spiritual merits. We will discuss that at length on Authority Part 2

Authority of believers through prayer!

Show me any Christian, spirit filled church in the world and I can guarantee you one thing; the smallest meeting or the church’s least attended gathering is the prayer meeting. We’ve been told that for a Christian prayer is not an option, it is an integral part of a Christian walk. I remember my high school class teacher used to say, “Seven prayers-less days make one weak”. This was just an emphasis on the importance that prayer has in the life of a Christian and indeed everyone else. Christians, Muslims, Jews, atheists, presidents, billionaires, paupers etc do pray. I mean everyone does pray at one point or another in their life. The big question however here is, if prayer is so important, if the Bible even says “Man ought to pray always and not faint”, then why is the prayer meeting of any church the least attended meeting. Why has prayer been relegated to a few volunteers referred to as intercessors?

I am in no position (theologically or otherwise) to give a comprehensive answer to this question. So this is no purport to make any theological argument but expound on findings of those who’ve done their research and come to conclusions. Possible explanation to this convolution has been frustration and lack of understanding. Yeah, frustration! I mean let’s get a bit real here, how many times have we prayed and not seen results? How many times have you released the Abraham kind of faith in prayer only to get more frustrated coz nothing seems to be happening? I am sure you can recall those times when you prayed and felt like your prayers are hitting the ceiling (or some cloud if you were on top of the mountain like me and friends used to do). I don’t know about you but I have experienced those times. What am I saying here? Ladies and gentlemen, prayer is an integral part of a Christian walk and there is no question about that but I guess there is something missing. I guess there could be a few things we’re failing to realise as children of God and hence the frustration. I mean, I don’t know about you but I used to ask myself early in my Christian walk when I discovered how Sovereign, Omniscience, Omnipotent, Omnipresent and “Omni-everything” God is that why do we have to pray? I mean come on let’s face it, He knows everything, he knows exactly what we need before we even need it, He told Jeremiah that He knew him before he was formed in his mother’s womb. So why do we have to come back to the all knowing God and start telling Him, requesting and “begging”(some of us go to that extent)? I mean if God is so sovereign and will have mercy on whom he’ll have mercy like he said in his word, why trouble ourselves with prayer?

Yeah, I know what you’re thinking “But prayer is not all about a requests, it’s not a shopping list, you can have prayer of intimacy etc” Yeah, you’re very right but this time around I’m talking about the asking kind of prayer, whether you call it fancy terms such as “Prayer of supplication” or petition prayer or whatever. I am talking about that prayer where you’re asking God to intervene, where you have a need or want (yeah, a want!). Well, I’ve had enough of beating by the bush, so let me propose this and propose it so strongly; I believe that everything is tied up the authority which comes from the word of God. One thing I believe we should understand very clearly is that as sovereign as God is, He is only as sovereign as His word. That is to say, as much as He can do as he pleases and wants; he will not violate his word. That’s why the Psalmist declares that he has honoured His word above his name. So why do we pray then to a God who knows everything? We surely not telling him something he doesn’t know, are we? My believe is that the answer lies in the order of authority and dominion that God established on earth through his word that he cannot violate. In Genesis 1:26 God said, Then God said, ‘Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, [b] and over all the creatures that move along the ground’. So what God is simply saying here is that man (human being) is in authority on earth. Like a great man of God, John Wesley observed, “It seems as if without God, man CANNOT but without man, God WILL NOT”. So it is an issue of man’s inability to do anything without God and God’s unwillingness to do things without man coz He chose to and declared it in His word that He wants to partner with man( I Cor 3:9). Am I saying God CANNOT do things He wants to do without man? Certainly not, but God WILL NOT do things without man because he is subject to his own word which says He gave the earthly authority to man. Therefore brethren, next time you come before God in supplication prayer, have an understanding of how much authority that carries since it is essentially agreeing with God or like someone said, “giving God permission” to do what He already wants to do! Continue in prayer because it carries the authority that can change things, an authority that will move God to action as long as it is in accordance with the word of God because “He guards and watches it jealously to ensure that it is fulfilled”(Jer 1:12)

IDENTITY

When we know who we are, when we are sure of our case, when we are established in our identity, we know what is in our jurisdiction. We begin to realize what authority we command. People around the world know that legal practitioners are some of the most difficult people to handle. Most governments and organizations are battling with these professionals in courts of law! The battle is in the term justice. Since they know what is due to them in their capacity as human and/ or lawyers, they are aware of what is rightfully theirs and trying to deny them that is not acceptable and they engage a legal battle without hesitation!

When you know who you are, you are not tossed to and fro by unnecessary madness! You take your stand and remain adamant! You know that ‘since the day of John the Baptist, the kingdom of God suffered violence, and the violent shall take by force’ and respond in kind to any organization or any form of arrangement that’s applying force against the word of God. You are aware that ‘you are a chosen generation, a royal priest hood, and a peculiar nation’ and any knowledge or school of thought which stands against that description is not of God and should be handled as accordingly! Believe me dear, no one will play games around you, even the devil together with his strategic operation teams will have a hard time trying to map your way.

When you know, who you are, it’s simple to be your best! One study conducted concluded that most people around the world are driven by an emotion of fear! You know that we are not given the spirit of fear but sound mind. You speak a language of kings! When people tell you that you are a good for nothing, you know that ‘the stone that the builders rejected became a corner stone’. When rejected, disappointed and in tears, you know that from greatest rejection and disappointments, there is great appointment and recognition! Though you live among them, you are not of them!

An eagle is an amazing bird; no wonder God used this bird in most of his illustration throughout his word. Eagle commands great respect in the animal kingdom. Though it’s living with other birds and animal it is surely speaking a different language. Some of its secrets are hidden in its identity, which it technically transformed into authority. An eagle admits that due to its body size (identity), its difficulty to take off, so it resides on high hills and mountains and when it begins to take off, it throws itself down the mountain and before it crushes to the ground, it will have gained momentum and begins to mount! Do you ever wonder why the bible says mount like eagles? Technically it’s the only bird that does not fly! Zoologists concur that no bird can fly as high as an eagle. Literature shows that it’s the only bird that can survive a violent thunder storm by technique, not mere coincidence because it has the ability to fly above clouds when it rains!!! The irony of it is that this is the bird which struggles to take off!

Knowing your identity means even taking into consideration your weakness and shortcomings, and then prayerfully transforming them into unique ability to make a mark on your world and people around you. The question is what is your weakness in life? How has your weakness affected your life? Are you getting down people’s nerve because of your weakness? What have you done to transform that into an assert, in which you and only you will own! Let me tell you the secret, your weakness is your greatest treasure, it was among the best things that pleased God after he created you! That fragile heart is a jewel of love and compassion, not a platform to continuous heart break! That brilliant mind is ideas manufacturing centre, not a manipulative instrument! That bold and strong heart signifies climbing the ladder through boldness and undying assurance, not to terrorize other student at school by bulling them!
